NWT Chamber to make Inuvik presentation
The NWT Chamber of Commerce, together with its partnering member organization the NWT Business Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC), is preparing to deliver a lunchtime presentation on June 17 at the 2009 Inuvik Petroleum Show.
“We will be primarily working to rekindle interest in an Inuvik Chamber of Commerce,” said NWT Chamber President Ann Marie Tout. “We’ll also be an exhibitor in the trade show as we look to promote our own organization and triennial business conference, Prospects North, which will take place during the fall of 2010 in Yellowknife.”
The presentation delivered by the NWT Chamber will focus on informing the Inuvik business community about issues the chambers of commerce in the NWT have been actively pursuing in recent months and highlight reasons to get involved in the chamber movement.
“The Inuvik Chamber has been inactive for several years now,” said Tout. “Given the ongoing delays faced by the Mackenzie Gas Project and the need for vital transportation infrastructure, such as the completion of the all-weather Mackenzie Valley Highway between Tuktoyaktuk and Wrigley, it is critical businesses in the Delta have a public voice moving forward.”
Also delivering a presentation at the same function, representatives of the NWT BDIC will be on hand to educate entrepreneurs about its programs that are specifically geared to help small Northern businesses.
“We’re extremely excited to be working with the BDIC at this event,” said Tout. “Our priorities are generally very closely aligned, so this is likely a first step towards a much stronger relationship between our two organizations moving forward.”
In addition to the BDIC, the NWT Chamber would like to thank the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment, the Town of Inuvik, Canadian North and Canarctic Graphics for assisting with its participation in this popular annual industry event.
