Pan-Northern Infrastructure Symposium Planned for Yellowknife
The Northern Strategy Group is preparing to host its 1st Annual Strategic Northern Infrastructure Symposium in Yellowknife Oct. 14-15, 2009 at the Explorer Hotel.
“Investments in infrastructure such as pipelines, roads, ports, hydro electricity and communications are critical across all three northern territories if we are to induce meaningful growth in the coming years,” said Patrick Doyle, Northern Strategy Group Conferences Senior Partner.
“Before that can happen on a large scale it is important for decision-makers from the public and private sectors in the NWT, Nunavut and the Yukon as well as representatives of the federal government to come together and build a common vision of the future and our development priorities.”
The two-day symposium will be co-chaired by Brendan Bell, former NWT minister responsible for energy, mining and economic development, and the Honourable Robert Nault, former federal minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.
“If we’re ever going to move beyond simply talking about the vast potential of the North, we need to get the infrastructure in place that can help fast-track future development,” said Bell.
“With a list of invited speakers ranging from current Indian Affairs and Northern Development Minister Chuck Strahl to all three Northern Premiers and from Doug Turnbull, Deputy Chairman of TD Securities, to the Presidents of all three NWT diamond mines, we’ll certainly have the clout in the room required to help shape future development in the North for years to come.”
Symposium discussion topics are expected to include:
- Northern Resource Potential
- Mine Life and Infrastructure
- Meeting Infrastructure Challenges
- Future Energy Highways: Our Northern Pipelines
- Northern Energy Potential
- Public/Private Partnerships
