NWT Chamber announces 2009/10 Board of Directors
April 17th, 2009
Following its 2009 Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Fort Smith, the NWT Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce its Board of Directors for the year ahead.
The membership returned President Ann Marie Tout, Enbridge Pipelines (NW) Inc.; First Vice-President Curtis Shaw, NorthwesTel; Second Vice-President Eitan Dehtiar, Braden Burry Expediting; and Secretary/Treasurer Chuck Parker, Discovery Air; as the organization’s Executive Officers for another term.
Following an election, the Chamber’s five Directors-At-Large for 2009/10 are Kathy Gray, Outcrop; Mike Scott, Northern News Services Ltd.; Sunny Munroe, Northern Transportation Company Ltd.; Leon Johnson, MATCO Transportation Systems; and Duane Morgan, Northland Utilities. Morgan is the only Director who was not part of the Board prior to the AGM.
“We are very excited to have Duane Morgan join the team,” said President Ann Marie Tout. “He is no stranger to the chamber movement having served many terms as a leader with other Northern chambers of commerce – including a stint as President of the Hay River Chamber of Commerce.”
The Board also includes representatives from each of the seven community chambers of commerce in the NWT. These individuals are chosen by their own respective organizations and currently include: Kirby Groat, Fort Simpson Chamber of Commerce; Leah Miltenberger, Hay River Chamber of Commerce; Chris Buist, Norman Wells & District Chamber of Commerce; Don Jaque, Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce; Jack R. Williams, Northern Aboriginal Business Association; Mike Lafferty, Behchoko Chamber of Commerce; and Jeff Barbutza, Yellowknife Chamber of Commerce.
Departing from the Board following the 2009 Annual General Meeting were former Past-President Don Yamkowy and former Director Hilary Jones, Mine Training Society.
“We certainly owe a great many thanks to Don and Hilary for their efforts on the Chamber’s behalf in the past,” said Tout. “Whenever you welcome new people to a group like ours it is a bittersweet time since it also means you’re saying goodbye to someone else.”
In association with the network of community chambers of commerce in Fort Simpson, Behchoko, Norman Wells, Fort Smith, Hay River and Yellowknife as well as the Northern Aboriginal Business Association, the NWT Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of more than 865 members. For more than 35 years, it has been the only pan-territorial voice of businesses across all sectors of the Northern economy.
