Electricity Review Team report tabled, makes 39 recommendations

November 6th, 2009

The territorial Electricity Review Panel report, titled Creating a Brighter Future: A Review of Electricity Regulation, Rates and Subsidy Programs in the NWT, was tabled in the Legislative Assembly yesterday.

Prepared following a series of public forums, meetings with individuals and organizations, and the review of a number of written submissions, the Panel estimates the views of more than 350 Northerners were considered – including the motions passed by the Board of Directors of the NWT Chamber of Commerce as well as opinions voiced by representatives of the community chambers of commerce – in its 39 recommendations.

“Throughout the review process we have found people to be both interested and passionate in their views,” writes the Panel. “Residents are interested in working with their government in the development of a long-term vision for electricity and the presentation of a plan that will, through incremental action, result in safe, reliable and affordable power for all.”

The report is now available for download as a PDF document from the Members Only - Documents section of this website. You will require your username and password to access this portion of the site. If you require they be resent, please email your request to admin@nwtchamber.com.

In association with the network of community chambers of commerce in Fort Simpson, Inuvik, Behchoko, Norman Wells, Fort Smith, Hay River and Yellowknife as well as the Northern Aboriginal Business Association, the NWT Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of more than 865 members. For more than 35 years, it has been the only pan-territorial voice of businesses across all sectors of the Northern economy.
