NWT Chamber of Commerce Continues Lobby Efforts - Mackenzie Gas Project

February 9th, 2010

The NWT Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors recently completed their review of the Joint Review Panel's recommendations. At their January 22nd Board meeting they resolved to issue letters to the Federal Government encouraging the provision of the economic incentives necessary to advance the Mackenzie Gas Project and, encourage and request the support of all Regular Members of the 16th Legislative Assembly for the Mackenzie Gas Project.
A letter to the Minister of the Environment, Honourable Jim Prentice issued by the NWT Chamber of Commerce stated "With the recent endorsement of the Project by the Joint Review Panel, we urge your government to provide necessary incentives to allow proponents to proceed (pending approval by the National Energy Board) and the NWT to recognize the benefits of this project.”
Wrote Ann Marie Tout in her letter to the MLA Dave Ramsey, "We were extremely pleased to read the statement you delivered on January 27th respecting the Mackenzie Gas Project and commend you on your intent to introduce a motion seeking unanimous support from the entire government body for the project. The advancement of the Mackenzie Gas Project is one of the four key policies of our Chamber and our policy resolution was passed unanimously at the 2009 Canadian Chamber of Commerce AGM. The NWT Chamber of Commerce is appreciative of your vocal support of the project and will be encouraging the same support from your colleagues."  Letters issued to the Regular Members of the Assembly called upon each one to demonstrate support for the project by voting in favour of any motion tabled which seek unanimous support from the entire government body for the project.

Good job folks. Keep that collective foot on the gas pedal and together we'll build the sustainable economy the North deserves.
