Bernd Christmas is a partner in the Aboriginal Law Practice of Cassels Brock and a proud member of the Mi’kmaq community of Membertou, Nova Scotia. As former CEO of the Membertou Band and the Corporate Division, Bernd grew the corporation from 20 to 700 employees and from $4 million to more than $100 million annually over a 10 year period.
Bernd’s practice is focussed on Indigenous economic development. He is a former member of the National Aboriginal Economic Development Board and of the executive committee organizing the Governor General’s Conference on Leadership and Diversity. Bernd has been a Director of the CBC and Keltic Petrochemicals Inc., and is currently on the board of Investors Group and the Indigenous charity Outside Looking In.
Outside Looking In offers a high school accredited program for Grade 7 and up, providing Indigenous youth with the opportunity to engage in intensive education through modern dance. Successful completion means they can join other Indigenous youth from across Canada for two weeks in Toronto, preparing for a stage show before hundreds in a downtown Toronto theatre.
